「今日熱燗を注文したところ、焼物ではなく、ガラスの徳利とお猪口で

出てきたのが残念です。」と...。

I went to the open campus of a certain university together with my son today.

今日私は私の息子と一緒に某大学のオープンキャンパスへ行きました。

"Where can the student here find a job?"

「資格は取れますか？」

「どんなところに就職できますか？」

それを聞いた時はメッチャ　ショックでした。

確か小学生の時は将来陶芸家になると言っていたじゃないか！！

しかしこういう私も若い時は親の後を継ぐことに抵抗がありました。

自然と一体化した境涯。

幽香満坐清（ゆうこうみちて ざ きよらかなり）

奥ゆかしくほのかなかおりの座中の全ての人がさわやかに・・・

The woman near me said yesterday.
"I waited for 3 group today's tea ceremony."

さて待合で待たれていたご婦人が言われました。

「今日はもう3席も順番を待っている。」と

Then, nearby, another woman said.
"Waiting is also the tea ceremony."

するとそれを聞いていたその隣のご婦人が言われました。

「待つこともお茶です。」と

But the another woman recommended that the woman who was waiting is put into the following tea ceremony.

でも「待つことも...。」と言われたご婦人が、次のお席の担当者に

「この方はもう3席も待たれています。

もし入れるならぜひこのお席に入れてあげてください。」と

懇願されたのです。

This is also the soul of the tea ceremony.

これもまた茶道の精神ですね。

京セラ製のオパールのスライスを樹脂で貼り付けました。

I am going to use the volcanic ashes of Sakurajima for glaze.

京セラの稲盛名誉会長が鹿児島出身なので、

釉薬には桜島の火山灰を使ってみようと思っています。

ろくろは結構カロリーを消費するのです。

I looked at surprising reality into the kiln.

私は窯の中にとんでもない現実を見たのです。

My work had broken.

私の作品はバラバラに壊れてました。

It was because I used white clay called DAK.

DAKという白い粘土を使ったのが原因でした。

It is fine-grained and DAK must make unglazing temperature high.

DAKは粒子が細かく、素焼きの温度を高くする必要があったのです。

(It had not vitrified) 

（通常の温度ではガラス化しません）

I thought that it was the cause this time also.

私は今回も同じ原因だと思ったのです。

However, I did not want to carry out a challenge .

しかし冒険はしたくありません。

Mr. Matsumoto asked me "To make a blue porcelain."

そんな私に「青磁を作ってほしい。」という

ギロギロの松本さんからのキラーパスがまた来ました。

I challenged, although probability was low.

可能性は低いですが、思い切ってシュートを打ってみました。

The beautiful blue porcelain was completed.
(The actual thing is more beautiful than a photograph.) 

お陰様で綺麗な青磁が焼きあがりました。

I made the blue porcelain from this combination.

この組み合わせで青磁を作ったのですが......。

It was a merciless result.

無残な結果でした。

I remembered the occurrence of 25 years ago then.

その時私は２５年前の出来事を思い出しました。

It was memory when I was a trainee of pottery.

それは私が陶磁器の研修生だった時の記憶です。

I made the big bowl for the graduation production.

私は卒業制作のため大きな鉢を作ったのです。

The morning of completion of a work came to me at last.

そしていよいよ窯出しの朝がやって来ました。

The trainee's classmate said.

その時研修生の仲間が言ったのです。

"-- Mr. Ito -- this is a serious occurrence -- "

「伊藤君　　えらいことになってるで。」

I ran toward kiln confusedly.

慌てて窯に向かってダッシュ！！

I am going to report this continuation tomorrow.

I think that such relation becomes useful to its own work.

陶芸には直接関係ないですが、

このような繋がりも大切だと思うのです。

I used the clay of the rice of sake yesterday.

昨日酒米（美丈夫）の田んぼ土を使って作品を作りました。

The clay of the rice of Bijyobu is weak to heat.

実は美丈夫の土は熱に弱かったのです。

This is the sake cup which melted in kiln.

これは窯の中で溶けたグイノミです。

Therefore, pottery cannot be made from the clay of Bijyobu.

よって、美丈夫の土では焼物が作れません。

Then, I considered the good method.

そこで私はよい方法を考えたのです。

This clay was used as glaze.

この土は釉薬として使いました。

Then, the Chinese child was able to be stuck to this.

それでこれらには唐子を接着することが出来たのです。

Good comes out of evil.

災いを転じて福をなす。

何とパレットが器となっています。

We were surprised at this production.

ちょっとビックリです。

It will be enraged if Rosanjin sees.

もし北大路魯山人が見たら激怒するでしょう。

He gets angry to the ceramist who allows this tableware.

それはこのような器の存在を許して納得してしまう

我々陶芸家に対して怒るのです。

I repaired pottery today.

今日は焼物の修復をしました。

I use silver this time.

今回は金ではなく銀継です。

I remove dirt using a sandpaper.

サンドペーパーで汚れを落として開始です......。

However, silver will oxidize to black, if time passes.

しかしながら、

銀は酸化して黒く変色します。

The silver which became black is not beautiful.

黒くなった銀は美しくないですね。

Therefore, I use the silver made from aluminum this time.

そこで今回は酸化しない特別な銀を使います。

This is the technique of the lacquer work of Japanese lacquer.

これは漆の上から金や銀をまく蒔絵という技法です。

I learned this technique from Mr. Kawase who already died.

私はこの蒔絵の技法を今は亡き２代目川瀬表完先生に教えていただきました。

In Gilo Gilo of Paris, there are guests who drink highest-quality green tea

during a meal occasionally.

パリの枝魯枝魯では時々食事中に玉露を飲むお客さんがいます。

（フランス人です。）

Then, I made the pot of highest-quality green tea for the restaurant in Hawaii.

そこでハワイのギロギロ用に玉露の茶器を作りました。

What I referred to is the portable tea set  for carrying which I made in May, last year.

参考になったのは私が昨年５月に作った携帯用茶器です。

I made the inside of that deep this time.

今回は内側を深くしました。

The angle here is the point.

ここの角度が重要です。

In May, last year.

昨年５月。

I am busy. 　I do not have time.　 I am troublesome.

忙しい。　　時間がない。　　面倒くさい。

If I did not challenge for these reasons

Today's I do not exist.

これらの理由で（携帯用茶器に）挑戦しなかったら、

今日の（ハワイに向けて玉露用茶器を作る）私は存在しません。

I think that the pile of positive action open the new good  life.

私はポジティブな行動の積み重ねが

人生を良い方向に切り開くと思うのです。

The clay of the bone china does not fit a potter's wheel.

ボーンチャイナの粘土はろくろには適していません。

That is because clay runs short of stickiness.

それは粘土に粘りが不足しているからです。

But I have a reason for using a bone china.

でも私には使う理由があります。

It is whiteness.

ズバリ白さです。

The left is clay of the porcelain used in Kyoto until now.
The right is the bone china.

左が現在京都で使われている磁器陶土、

右がボーンチャイナです。

These have applied the same glaze.

同じ釉薬でもこれだけ色が違います。（土の白さで釉薬の発色が変わります。）

However, it is difficult to make the thing of the same size from

the potter's wheel using the bone china.

しかしながら轆轤を使ってボーンチャイナで同じサイズのものを

作るのは難しいです。

But the good thing happened to me.

でもラッキーです。

Since it is the clay which I bought before half a year, mold etc. is parasitic on it.

半年前に購入したボーンチャイナの粘土なのでカビなどが寄生しています。

Existence of this microbe is good.

この微生物の存在が良いのです。

This gives stickiness to clay.

粘土に粘りを与えてくれます。

Now, I made the small bowl using the potter's wheel.

この形に戻ることを予想しているのです。

亀の器が完成しました。

黄色の方に決定しました。

 （緑の方はちょっとリアルですね。）

This is the tableware for sake.

これは日本酒用の器です。

The portion of this brown is using the clay of the rice field of the rice of sake.

この茶色の部分は（美丈夫の）酒米の田んぼの土を使っています。

Rice changes to sake and it returns to its own ground.

米が日本酒に変化して自分の土に帰っていくわけです。

 Incidentally the portions under these are platinum and gold.

ちなみにこれらの下の部分はプラチナと金です。

 The method of adhesion is our secret although a Chinese child is porcelain.

一閑人（中国の子供）は磁器です。（陶器と磁器がどうしてくっつくのか？）
接着の方法は企業秘密です.........が。

It is for getting the clay of the lightweight porcelain for a test.

テスト用の軽量磁器の粘土を分けてもらうためです。

This clay was developed in Kyushu.

この粘土は九州で開発されました。

This clay does not fit a potter's wheel.

また轆轤には適していません。

（粘りがないのでグニャグニャになるのです。）

However, I used this with the potter's wheel.

しかしながら轆轤にチャレンジ！！

This is a bowl of Japanese noodles.

これはうどんの鉢です。

Incidentally this is [ business use and for elderly people ] suitable.

ちなみにこの軽量磁器は業務用および高齢者用に適しています。

Now, this SP-4 is whiter porcelain clay.

さてこのSP-4はより白い磁器粘土です。

Since a potter's wheel becomes smooth, I rub this by hand.

私は轆轤がスムーズになるためこれを手で揉みます。

（ふつう磁器の粘土は手で揉まないで真空状態で購入したまま使います。）

これらはハワイ用の皿です。

This clay is a product of the maker of Aichi Prefecture.

このSP-4という粘土は愛知県のメーカーの製品です。

Thus, we can purchase the material of pottery from the whole country.

このように私達は全国から陶磁器の材料が購入できます。

It is a world convenient for us the ceramists.

私達陶芸家にとって便利な世の中です。

Therefore, we have to make a better work.

よって私達はもっとより良い作品を作らなければならないのです。

今日はゴルフボール形の器の製作です。

１個ずつ手作業でディンプルを削っていきます。

枝魯枝魯は料理人と客とのコミュニケーションが大切です。

We put the tableware of the tortoise into kiln today.

今日は亀の器の窯詰めです。

These outsides do not apply glaze.

外側に釉薬はかけません。

After burning these, glaze of Kohchi is applied outside.

一度焼成した後交趾の釉薬を塗ります。

These were safely settled in kiln.

無事詰まりました。

This is incense container which is the worthiest in the tea ceremony of Japan.

これは茶道では最も価値のある焼物の香合です。

This was arranged to tableware this time.

今回はこれを食器にアレンジしました。
